April 30 - Bunch Bowl

We celebrated John Bunch's birthday with a game of laser tag and then some cosmic bowling at Red Rock (the cosmic part was unexpected). I was hoping to get something artistic. I'm somewhat satisfied with the result.

April 29 - Fail Whale

For those who don't know, the "Fail Whale" is the graphic that appears whenever Twitter is down. I feel like this day's photo is my equivalent of the Fail Whale. I drove up Blue Diamond Rd and around Mountain's Edge looking for a good sunset photo. When that didn't happen, I hiked up Exploration Peak looking to get a decent early evening photo. Long story short, this is all I have to show.

April 28 - Skoon-Tang Clan

I don't really celebrate my birthday, but when I discovered The Skooners were playing a rare acoustic set, I saw a good opportunity to at least get out of the house. Plus, I haven't seen them perform in a long time. It was at the Brand Lounge inside the Monte Carlo. Luckily, some lady just happened to be handing out 2-for-1 drink coupons as we were walking to the place.

April 27 - Slingbox Resurrected

I recently canceled my cable and am now living solely on the Interwebs. That works for the most part, because I can get all of my shows online, but it breaks down when it comes to sports. That's where my old Slingbox comes in. I hooked it up at my Dad's house (above) and I'm back in business (below). Unfortunately, he has Cox's slowest tier Internet option, so the quality suffers greatly. Luckily, I really only need it for games on TNT.

April 26 - Racing For Pinks

I received my Race for the Cure t-shirt and bib. The bracelet is just something I wear every day. I threw it in to give the photo a little more visual depth. Of course, I race for my mother, so that was something I made certain to highlight. The actual event is bright and early tomorrow morning (May 1) in Downtown Las Vegas. I hate running, but I'll be doing the 5K fun run.

April 25 - Aloha Purity

Went down to the Pure Aloha Festival today. Strangely enough, my photo involves Italian Ice. I just thought it was hilarious that the sign says to "tell 10 friends" and points right at ten portable toilets.

The second photo is Joyce sniffing some scented sea salt. They had a good deal going, which got better at the end of the day. For $20, I got four bags and two burners.

April 24 - Wine Walkers

Town Square had another Wine Walk on Saturday night. I didn't actually partake in the wine, but I participated in the walking. It turned out to be a lot of fun, despite the lack of alcohol being introduced into my system.

April 23 - Titanium Chefs

My brother and his friends have a weekly cook night. This week was Banh Mi (Vietnamese) and Harira (Moroccan). To satiate our appetites earlier in the evening, we had some of Perry's Penne. All of the dishes were as delicious as they sound, including Perry's Penne.

April 22 - Earth Day

I must admit, I stole the idea for this photo online while I was surfing for ideas. I bought a cheap plant, had Chris Jones hold it in his hand, and snapped a few photos. Obviously, some Photoshop work was done to give the plant separation from the surroundings.

Incidentally, I asked my Tweeps (Twitter peeps) for suggestions on an Earth Day photo. Colleen replied, "show me something that earth day activities help ... like something bad that we can fix with care for the earth ..." That was a tough assignment and I failed. But I'm happy with this.

April 21 - Bright Idea

I had this self-portrait idea a long time ago. I'm glad I procrastinated because it's perfect for this photo blog. The execution isn't perfect, but you get the idea.

April 20 - Toe Foo

Went to REI this evening for an introductory clinic on backpacking. I found that I already knew most of it coming in, but there were some useful pieces of information. It'll definitely cost a lot of money to get the right gear. Anyway, I was pretty sure I wanted to capture these bad boys for today's photo. And that's what I did.

April 19 - Twisted Farm Food

I took the day off so I could have lunch with the family to celebrate my brother's birthday. We decided on Hash House A Go Go, which I've been wanting to try for years. I ordered the Sage Chicken n Waffles (below). I seem to be determined to regain all that weight I lost on Saturday.

April 18 - BIOS Corruption

Had a pretty lazy day today, other than trying to figure out my cousin's laptop boot-up issues. After trying a few things and checking online for solutions, I ended up e-mailing for support. At least I've copied all her data off the hard drive.

April 17 - Dale's Icebox

Today, our weekly hike took us to Icebox Canyon via Dale's trail, starting from the Pine Creek parking area. I've done Icebox once before, but I didn't bother scrambling to the uppermost pool of water. This time, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The photos are from that top pool area.

I've decided that I'm not a fan of Dale and his trail. It seems to meander and drop into ravines too much, causing unnecessary steep ascents. Couple that with Icebox's constant jumping over and around boulders and you have one very tired and sore hiker.

The great news is that I lost a ton of weight today. The bad news is that it's probably just water weight. The silver lining is that I had a big lunch at Serendipity3 topped off by Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. And I didn't gain back any weight at all!

April 16 - Tree Erection

I was picking up my lunch and saw these workers putting up palm trees. So I photographed it. And boom goes the dynamite.

April 15 - Tax Day

Let me tell you how it will be.
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
Coz I'm the tax man...

I'm not ecstatic about this photo, but it serves my tax day photo purpose. Apparently, Mandalay gives out free Shark Reef tickets if you mail your tax return there. Way to reward the procrastinators!

April 14 - Abbey Road

My cousin gave me an early birthday present yesterday. This wallet is completely ridiculous and awesome at the same time. Now I need to watch LOVE again.

April 13 - Beata's Betta

Had dinner at my Aunt's house, so I took the opportunity to photograph her Betta. Not much more to say about it than that.

April 12 - Double Exposures

I almost forgot to take a photo today. That would have been a major fail. Luckily, I have a list of ideas (albeit a short one) that I can use for last minute situations. This is just one of my downstairs walls. The prints are black & white double exposures from a photography class I took about a decade ago. The tea lights and wall shelf are from none other than IKEA!

April 11 - Mileage Madness

I won't lie. My titles are ridiculous. But this photo is ridiculously lazy, so it works out. Also, whenever I fill up my tank, my readouts are equally ridiculous. I wish I could get that many miles on a tank. Not that the 500 miles I do get is bad.

April 10 - Marley-Palooza

We went down to Petapalooza for the afternoon and stayed longer than expected. My main photo choice is a no-brainer. Paws down, Marley is the smartest dog I know. Joyce tried going under the hurdle with Panda; the results were slightly less spectacular. They also had a dog entertainment show that I had some fun shooting.

April 9 - Plants vs Zombies

I think I may have hooked my cousin and his kids on Plants vs Zombies. I'm not sure why it's so popular. It's yet another variant of your basic tower defense game, but in this case, it's flower defense. Perhaps tower defense games are just inherently addicting.

April 8 - C's New Do

Camila is taking her radio show, Las Vegas Storytellers, into the TV realm. She had her hair done for their first taping, so we decided to document it.

April 7 - Knot Theory... NOT

I regularly listen to CNET's Buzz Out Loud. Last week, someone emailed in about headphone cords mysteriously entangling themselves. A couple of episodes later, someone else emailed about a pair of physicists winning an Ig Nobel Peace Prize by proving that heaps of string or hair will inevitably tangle. I subsequently looked up knot theory and found it strangely fascinating.

So that's the uber-geeky setup for this appropriately silly photo of the day.

April 6 - Izzy & Rex

Hung out with my cousin and his kids. Their lizard provided me with my photo of the day (above). Much later that night - about 1am - the other lizard came out of hiding and they both posed for my camera. Since I'm anal, the photos below technically don't qualify for today's post, but they're cool enough to include as a bonus. In fact, I think they're cooler than the actual POTD!

April 5 - Shire Of Duke

Unfortunately, Jon Scheyer and the Dookies won the NCAA title over Butler (as if you didn't know). We were watching the game at Rounders, but I ended up leaving with about five minutes left on the game clock to see How To Train Your Dragon. Based on the outcome of the game, I don't regret missing its conclusion.

April 4 - Easter Basket

My cousin, Camila, wanted help editing some sound files, so she came over and gave me this Easter basket. Needing a photo of the day, I naturally chose to make it today's subject. I experimented with trying to give it natural looking lighting. I flashed the background as well as the subject. I didn't quite achieve the natural look in-camera, but Photoshop helped fix some of that.

April 3 - Final Four

I watched the first Final Four game at Rounders with Anthony and Jia. I then headed to Louie's house for game two. As soon as I got there, I saw his mirrors and got the idea for this three-section photo. It was very convenient that they just happened to line up like this.

Chef Louie also Q'ed up some nice grub.

April 2 - Ice Wrangling

My coworker, Jerome, got me free tickets to the Wranglers game on Friday. I'm not an ice hockey fan, but a free ticket is a free ticket. It turned out to be a fun couple of hours. Not only did the Wranglers win the game, the tickets were good for a free drink in the casino afterwards.

April 1 - Got Electrolytes?

Smith's had Powerade on sale for $0.49 each. Since I like to drink one after our weekly hikes, I figured I'd stock up. To take this photo, I emptied out my fridge so that it would be nothing but Powerade.
