May 30 - Origen Museum

I checked out the Springs Preserve today thanks to Target Free Day. The place was packed and I didn't get to see a lot, but I did visit the strangely named Origen Museum. It has this big spinning ball in the rotunda. I shot this handheld at 0.5 seconds in order to get the motion blur. Not bad.

May 29 - Bristlecone Trail

I definitely picked a strange day to hike the Bristlecone Trail. It was cold and snowing/hailing when we got up to Lee Canyon, but I figured we drove all the way up there, we might as well just go for it. Despite almost constant snow and the temperature being in the 30s, I didn't really feel the cold. My strategy of keeping moving worked pretty well. It's a beautiful hike and the snow enhanced the surroundings. It's not a short loop (about 6 miles), but I would categorize it as fairly easy, even with all the icy areas.

May 24 - Anal Bum Cover

SNL Celebrity Jeopardy...
Sean Connery: I'll take Anal Bum Cover for 7000.
Alex Trebek: That's An Album Cover - not Anal Bum Cover.

If you haven't been to the so-called secret pizza place at The Cosmopolitan, you're missing out. I'm not sure it's the best pizza in Vegas, but there's just something about a hidden pizza joint with absolutely no signage at the end of a corridor adorned with album covers, nestled right among some high end restaurants in a luxurious strip resort.

May 24 - Boulevard Pool

I finally got to visit the Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan thanks to one of the many free events they hold for members of their Identity players club. It overlooks the strip and comes complete with pool tables, ping pong tables, and foosball tables!

May 16 - I Shot Jar Jar

Jar Jar doing manual labor, where he belongs. Apparently, his actual name is Cosmo. He is the mascot for the Las Vegas 51s minor league baseball team.

May 13 - Friday13 Foto Walk

This is the first unofficial Yelp event (UYE) that I've organized and it seems to have been a success. Everyone had a good time and people have expressed interest in doing another photo walk some time down the road.

As for this post, since I already pre-photowalked the other day, I decided to concentrate my efforts on capturing the people on the walk.

May 10 - PrePhotoWalk PhotoWalk

In case you didn't know, I'm hosting a photo walk on Friday the 13th. It's my first time organizing a Yelp gathering (or UYE as we call it - unofficial Yelp event). So I wanted to scout out a possible route through the back alleys of the downtown arts district. I met up with Warren P (since he can't make the actual walk) and we did our own little photo walk.

I'm hoping for a pretty good turnout! Here is my event listing.

May 2 - Hearts On Fire

OK this post needs a little back story. During my one night in Page AZ, I stayed at a Motel 6 and AMC happened to be running a Rocky marathon. For some reason, I've always liked Rocky IV.

Fast forward to my Zion sojourn. Paul drove up from St George and decided to join me in hiking up to Angels Landing. Of course, he also caught the Rocky marathon. Long story short, we had the "Hearts On Fire" song in our heads almost the whole time. And this idea pops into my head about half way up.

May 1 - Star Watchman

When I realized that my return drive would take me past Zion, I decided to add another day to my trip. I camped at the Watchman campground (hence the title). Of course, I couldn't help but try to take advantage of the lack of light pollution. I've yet to make a serious attempt at star trail photography. I basically took a couple of 30-minute exposures and called it a night (it was cold). One day, I'll figure this out and do it properly.

May 1 - Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon = pure awesomeness. The slot canyon is so amazing, it's like nature did all the work for me. All I had to do was bring the camera, lens, and memory card.

(By the way, all of these are vertical because I was hoping to get a vertical canvas print for my wall).
